Both sides needed a win to keep alive their hopes of qualification for the knock-out stages and a try either side of half-time for the Irish champions laid the foundations for their victory.

Outside half Paddy Wallace steered Ulster to an exciting 27-29 victory against Ebbw Vale in the Celtic League by kicking five penalties and two conversions for a personal tally of 19 points.

Vale ended the first half 20-3 in the lead but Ulster clicked into a much higher gear in the second half and thoroughly deserved their victory.

Connacht ended Neath's unbeaten Celtic League run with a disciplined and clinical 28-10 victory at the Galway Sports Ground.
