LONDON - Ms Clare Short and Mr Kevin McNamara, British Labour MPs, yesterday won substantial sums in damages and apologies in the High Court for an article in the Guardian which claimed they were well known for their support of Sinn Fein/IRA and a united republican Ireland".

The Guardian took their comments in June 1995 from a press release issued by Mr Stuart Sexton, Conservative Party candidate in the Northern Ireland constituency of North Down, and Dr Paul Megarity, his election agent.
