CALCUTTA - Mother Teresa was strong enough yesterday to emerge from bed for the first time this week, but she still remained in critical condition in an Indian heart clinic, her doctors said.
"Mother Teresa . . . is critically ill but some vital signs remain stable. Her heart rhythm is irregular but the rate is controlled," doctors at Calcutta's B.M. Birla Heart Research Centre said in an evening bulletin on her health.
