A mother died hours after the death of her 13-month-old baby following a fire in a house in Bray in Co Wicklow, gardaí confirmed last night.

Ms Teresa Cahill (27) and her son Chris were in the home in Oldcourt Avenue when the blaze is believed to have broken out at around 10 a.m. last Sunday.

Firefighters rescued a number of occupants from the house, including children aged 3, 4 and 17.

The baby and his mother, found in an upstairs bedroom, were taken to Loughlinstown Hospital in Co Dublin.

The boy was then transferred to the National Children's Hospital in Crumlin where he died at 1 a.m. yesterday while Ms Cahill died in the afternoon.
