Morrissey forced to cancel further shows due to ulcer

Singer Morrissey has been forced to cancel further shows as his treatment continues for a bleeding ulcer and a condition which can in some cases lead to cancer.

The British star had been expected to return to the US stage today, but his ongoing medical problems mean he is unable to perform until later in the month.

The former Smiths frontman is now expected to resume performing on February 21st in Denver, Colorado.

An announcement about the cancelled shows said he was still “undergoing treatment for a bleeding ulcer and Barrett’s oesophagus” and needed to rest.

Morrissey (53) has had to cancel a series of shows on his US tour as a result of his ill-health.In an online message earlier this month, detailing his illnesses, he joked: “There are now no known ailments left for me to try.”

He signed it off by adding: “Pause at my headstone, Morrissey.”

Morrissey (real name Steven Patrick Morrissey) rose to prominence in the 1980s as the lyricist and vocalist of The Smiths. The band was highly successful but broke up in 1987, and Morrissey began a solo career, achieving 10 top-10 hits in the UK.
