Firefighters and soldiers are battling a major blaze at a British army base in Co Down.

Flames swept across 400 acres of gorseland at Ballykinlar camp on the south Down coast.

As strong winds hampered efforts to put out the fire, 15 crews were called to the scene.

Divisional officer Mr David Curry said: "There are 220 people, including the army, beating the fire in the direction of the sea."
