Shamrock Rovers moved to second place in the Eircom Premier Division table tonight with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over newly promoted Monaghan Utd at Tolka Park.
All four goal came from set pieces with Monaghan looking out of the depth and failing to create any realistic scoring opportunities themselves.
Sean Francis opened the scoring for the Hoops after only five minutes. Terry Palmer doubled the lead on 17 minutes while further strikes from Tony Grant and Billy woods, after 38 and 58 minutes respectively, completed the rout.
