Europe's fifth-largest mobile phone group saw its Irish arm report earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of €114 million to the end of September, a rise of 22 per cent on the same period last year.

Today's numbers follow stronger-than-expected earnings from European leader Vodafone Group last week.

Operating profits in Ireland grew to €62 million from €47 million, and the company saw its customer numbers increase by 37,000 in the second quarter, bringing customer numbers to just under 1.2 million.

The group repeated a warning it faces risks in its British market because of a upcoming ruling by the country's Competition Commission, due by early January, on price cuts for calls from fixed-line phones mobiles.
