The deputy leader of the Democratic Unionist Party has said ministers in the Northern Ireland Executive should not be paid their salaries if the Assembly collapses or is suspended.

Speaking to reporters in Derry yesterday, the Minister of Regional Development, Mr Peter Robinson, said he believed ministers should not be paid if they did not do their job.

"I believe if you do not do the job, you should not get the salary, there is no doubt about that. I would have thought it would have been far better to exclude those who are not prepared to be in the democratic process and let the rest of us do the job," he said.
