Belgrade - President Slobodan Milosevic of Yugoslavia stood by his refusal to countenance deployment of foreign troops in Kosovo, in talks late yesterday with the US Kosovo envoy Mr Christopher Hill, the presidency announced here.

Mr Hill arrived in Belgrade earlier to deliver what the US State Department said was a stern warning to Yugoslav President Milosevic to compromise or face NATO air strikes.

Mr Hill flew to the Serbian capital from France, where peace talks are being held outside Paris.
