Microsoft, in association with industry partners Dell, EMC and SureSkills, is providing a forum for IT experts to address concerns raised by Irish companies operating in the sector.

Issues that will be addressed throughout the up coming seminar series include: enterprise business infrastructure, business empowerment, accelerating e-business technologies, and the integration of business partners.

Microsoft has developed the 'Enterprise Seminar Series', which will run from February until May, in response to concerns faced by companies in the Irish enterprise space.

Over the past year, Microsoft interactions with enterprise companies found that Irish corporate companies across all sectors face common IT challenges. The series is aimed at senior business decision makers and IT directors.

The first seminar in the series, co-hosted today by Microsoft, Dell, EMC and SureSkills discussed the subject of 'Core Enterprise Business Infrastructure' and focused on the topic of server consolidation.

Speaking at the seminar, Kieran McDonnell, Solutions Sales Manager, Microsoft Ireland said global research points to server consolidation as a hot issue for enterprise organisations: "Indicators show that about 30 per cent of global organisations have already embarked on server and storage consolidations."

Microsoft research suggests that companies can save up to 30 per cent of their overall IT spend by deploying server consolidation.

Making the keynote speech at today's seminar, Mr Milind Govekar, vice president & Research Director, Gartner Group explained that consolidation is the only way forward for companies to smoothly run business applications, manage networks and organise various computing devices across their organisations.

"Many applications today are driving the proliferation of servers. This proliferation leaves many painpoints for enterprises, which drives the need to heal the pain through consolidation," said Mr Govekar.

Mr Govekar warned companies that they must ensure they choose the right type of consolidation for them: "There is no one-size-fits-all cure enterprises have to examine and then decide which form of consolidation will provide them the most benefit."
