The jury at an inquest at Dublin Coroner’s Court into a death in Garda custody has recommended changes to the prescription of large quantities of methadone.

Mark Reidy (32), Drimnagh, died at Terenure Garda station on December 30th, 2007, having taken a massive overdose of methadone.

His death was investigated by the Garda Ombudsman which sent a file to the DPP, who opted not to prosecute.

Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis said he died from a very high level of methadone in his system.

The jury returned a verdict of death by misadventure.
