Two men have been remanded in custody after they appeared before Carlow District Court charged with aggravated burglary at the house at Graiguecullen on the Laois/Carlow border where a woman was allegedly abducted in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Tom Doran (54) and his son Jim Doran (21) with an address at Meadowbrook, Tramore, Co Waterford were remanded in custody to Cloverhill prison by Judge Mary Martin.  They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Garda Inspector Gerry Reynolds objected to applications for bail because of the "seriousness of the charges", concern that the defendants might "interfere with witnesses" and a "fear that they would abscond".

Both men will appear before Carlow District Court next Wednesday.
