Washington - The US Vice-President, Mr Dick Cheney, said yesterday that Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh (33) deserved to be executed, dismissing a Papal plea to spare the life of the man responsible for the worst act of domestic terrorism in US history.
"I think that would be a mistake," Mr Cheney told Fox News. "I think if there was ever a man who deserves to be executed it's probably Timothy McVeigh."
On Friday the White House said it had received a letter written on behalf of Pope John Paul II asking President Bush to spare McVeigh, set to be executed by lethal injection on May 16th for killing 168 people in the 1995 bombing of a US federal building in Oklahoma City.
