Opposition to the location of a McDonalds restaurant in Kilkenny is to be allowed a hearing in the High Court. A preliminary hearing in that court yesterday cleared the way for a challenge to the granting of planning permission.

Mr Justice Geoghegan granted leave to The Village Residents Association Limited, a company formed by residents, to bring proceedings aimed at quashing An Bord Pleanala's decision granting planning permission for the development of a standard McDonalds restaurant-cum-take away subject to conditions.
