The President, Mrs McAleese has met with Senegalese President, Mr Abdoulaye Wade in Dakar today at the start of her two-day visit to West Africa.
The President and her husband Martin, lead an Irish delegation which includes Minister for Defence, Mr O'Dea, and the Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Jim Sreenan. McAleese will travel to Camp Clara, where 450 Irish troops have been based for the last 12 months as part of a UNMIL peacekeeping force. She will address the battalion and along with her husband be a guest of honour at lunch for more than 200 people.
