The Muslim population in the west of Ireland is appealing for funds to repair its mosque at Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo. Water is seeping into the building through the onion shaped dome and cracks have appeared in the walls. Since the departure from the town four years ago of meat processor Mr Sher Rafique, who built the mosque, the remaining 50 or so practising Muslims have found it difficult to maintain the centre.
