The Minister for Health and Children has thrown down a challenge to the Opposition parties to explain their alternatives to the Government’s abortion referendum proposals.
Mr Micheál Martin said the Opposition should "stop hiding behind tactical attacks" and spell out to the public exactly how they would address the abortion issue.
They should end their "vague generalities" and be specific about what their positions are, considering they too have full access to the same information as the Government, he said.
He challenged his Dáil opponents to specify what procedures they would legislate for and what supervision and decision mechanisms they would implement. He also called for clarification on proposed time limits and the consultation process for changes in legislation.
