Man wins award for keg device

An aptitude for beer has won a young Dublin man the Hewlett-Packard award

An aptitude for beer has won a young Dublin man the Hewlett-Packard award. Mr Iain Campion, an undergraduate mechanical engineering student at University College Dublin, came up with a quick and easy way to measure the contents remaining in a beer keg.

Having worked in bars and night-clubs throughout his college life, Mr Campion found the existing method of lifting the keg was inaccurate and dangerous. Consequently he has designed a solution that involves tapping the barrel and measuring the resulting resonance.
