Glasgow asylum seekers protest after a 22-year old Turkish man's fatal stabbing.

The 22-year-old Iranian was attacked last night as he took out rubbish from his flat in a tower block in the Sighthill area of Glasgow.

The latest incident came as police continued the hunt for the killers of 22-year-old Turkish Kurd Mr Firsat Dag, who was stabbed to death as he walked home with a friend just after midnight on Sunday on the rundown estate.

Detectives have not ruled out a racial motive for Mr Dag's killing.

In last night's stabbing the man, who has not been named, was set upon by three or four white youths on the landing of the seventh floor of the building in Fountainwell Terrace shortly before 10 p.m.

Police are treating the incident as an unprovoked racist attack and appealed for anyone who saw the youngsters aged 15 or 16, one of whom was wearing a white baseball cap, to contact them.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated for a "superficial wound" to his back before being released.

Today officers were on the estate carrying out door-to-door inquiries and studying CCTV footage in an attempt to catch the attackers.

Detective Chief Inspector David Johnston, who is leading the investigation, appealed to anyone who saw the youths hanging around Fountainwell Terrace between 10 p.m. and 10.30 p.m., or saw them entering the flats, to contact police.

It is understood the injured man has been living in Glasgow for more than a year with his two brothers.

A police spokesman said: "Strathclyde Police is treating this incident as a racist attack and officers are presently conducting door-to-door inquiries within the vicinity and checking the CCTV system in an effort to help identify those responsible."
