A former businessman described as a “victim of the property bubble” has been jailed for six years for importing €300,000 worth of cannabis into Ireland.

Shane Mangan (50), Crecora, Co Limerick, a father of three, admitted after arrest that he travelled to Holland on four occasions in 2010 and transported almost €1 million worth of cannabis.

He pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to possession of 25kg of cannabis for sale or supply at Ballyclough, Co Limerick, on November 7th, 2010.

Before sentencing, Judge Caroll Moran said Mangan acted as a courier for profit.
