A London court has remanded a Venezuelan man after he was charged with possession of a live grenade at London's Gatwick Airport.
Mr Hasil Mohammed Rahaham-Alan (37) appeared before Bow Street magistrates charged with "possession of an article for the purpose of committing a terrorist act" and "possession of an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or damage property".
He is also charged with carrying a dangerous article on a British-registered plane. Mr Rahaham-Alan will appear at the London's Old Bailey court on February 24th.
Mr Rahaham-Alan arrived at Gatwick on Thursday on a British Airways flight, which started from the Venezuelan capital of Caracas and stopped in Colombia and Barbados en route to London.
He was arrested after police allegedly discovered the grenade in his bags.
Police were forced to evacuate the airport's north terminal, causing flights to be delayed or cancelled. Thousands of passengers were forced to sleep in the airport, find hotel rooms for the night or abandon their travel plans.
Security forces have been on high alert since last Tuesday, when Scotland Yard warned that al-Qaeda, blamed for the September 11 2001 attacks on US cities, might use the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival as a pretext to attack.
