Man remanded in murder case on Isle of Man

A man (21) charged with the murder of two teenagers on the Isle of Man has been remanded in custody.

A man (21) charged with the murder of two teenagers on the Isle of Man has been remanded in custody.

Mr Peter Newbery, of Willaston Crescent, Douglas, is accused of strangling Samantha Barton and George Green, both aged 16.

Mr Newbery was remanded in custody until March 15th when he appeared before High Bailiff Andrew Williamson in Douglas Court for a one-minute hearing. There was no application for bail, and reporting restrictions were not lifted.

Samantha Barton's body was found at the Leece Lodge care home, where she lived, on the outskirts of Douglas on February 8th. She was born in Dublin to Irish parents.

The body of George Green, her friend, who was also from Douglas, was found the following day in a thicket a quarter of a mile away.
