A 34-year-old man has appeared before Mullingar District Court charged with the false imprisonment and sexual assault of a ten-year-old girl in Co Westmeath on Tuesday night.
The man, who cannot be named after an order by the judge, was remanded in custody to appear before Tullamore District Court on June 19th.
Responding to an application to have the identity of the victim and the accused protected, Judge John Nealon said a television interview with the victim's family last night was "outrageous".
The man is accused of falsely imprisoning the girl at Aghamore, Kilbeggan, and of sexually assaulting the same girl at a place unknown on Tuesday.
