At a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court yesterday, Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick remanded Mr Stephen Boyle (28), with an address at Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin, to appear in Dublin District Court today at 10.30 a.m.

Mr Boyle has been charged with maliciously wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Mr Douglas McManus on Saturday morning at around 4 a.m. at Lower Rathmines Road.

Det Insp Tony Brislane, told Judge Fitzpatrick he cautioned and charged Mr Boyle in Portlaoise Garda station at 12.55 a.m. yesterday and that Mr Boyle made no reply.

Mr Boyle told the judge he had a solicitor in Belfast and that a solicitor in Dublin would be arranged.
