A Dublin man who was found in contempt of court, having breached a court order not to attended the murder trial of Brian Rattigan, has been released from custody by the Central Criminal Court to spend Christmas with his partner.

Jeremy Cooper (40), Clondalkin, had been ordered by Mr Justice George Birmingham not to attend Rattigan’s murder trial after it was suggested his constant presence was intimidating to witnesses. Rattigan (28) was found guilty on December 17th of murdering Declan Gavin (21) in 2001.

Releasing him yesterday, Mr Justice Birmingham took note of the fact that Cooper was facing sentencing in the new year and had spent the last 10 years in prison.
