Man on attempted murder charge in Belfast

A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of his former partner in a south Belfast hostel.

A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of his former partner in a south Belfast hostel.

Mr Gerard McAllister (23), from Cranbrooke Gardens in north Belfast, was also charged with threatening to kill the woman during the attack at the women's refuge.

The victim suffered stab wounds to the chest and arms being chased through the garden of the Women's Aid hostel on Saturday morning.

A detective told Belfast Magistrates Court that when Mr McAllister was chargedhe made no reply, but he believed he could connect him to the charges.

The officer said Mr McAllisterhad co-operated fully during police interviews.

Mr McAllister was remanded in custody.
