A MAN was recovering in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin yesterday after a youth trying to steal his car threw a knife which lodged in his back.

One of the three youths in the car hit the man on the head when he came out of his house at Dunbo Hill, Howth, Co Dublin, around 12.30 a.m. When the man backed off, a heavy wooden handled knife was thrown at him. The youths then ran away.

A spokeswoman for Beaumont Hospital said the man was "doing very well". His injuries had not required surgery. The knife wound is in the back, over the right hip.

Meanwhile a 23 year old man was recovering in St Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown, yesterday after being attacked by four masked men wielding iron bars in Bray, Co Wicklow.

Mr Sean McLoughlin, from Fassaroe, Bray, suffered cuts and bruises and a broken leg when he was attacked by the men near his home at around 12.30 a.m.
