A YOUNG man was killed and six people were taken to hospital yesterday following road traffic collisions in Dublin and Wicklow.
In Dublin, a 21-year-old died after the car he was driving collided with a truck at the junction of Newlands Cross and the Naas Road at about 11.30am.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Tallaght, where a postmortem was expected to be carried out.
The deceased man was the sole occupant of the car. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Diversions were in place in the area yesterday afternoon, pending an examination of the crash scene by a team of Garda collision investigators.
One lane of the N7/Naas road inbound was closed for much of yesterday, according to AA Roadwatch, and heavy traffic was reported on the Naas Road, Belgard Road and Fonthill Road as a result of the diversions.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Co Wicklow are investigating after six people were taken to hospital following a four-vehicle collision near Arklow. The crash occurred on the N11 at Ballymoyle, about a mile north of the Arklow bypass, at about 5pm. It involved a minibus, two cars and a truck. None of the six are believed to have sustained serious injuries.
