A commercial diver was sentenced to two years in prison at Galway Circuit Court yesterday for dangerous driving which caused the death of his two friends, writes Ann Healy.

Sean Ruddy (22), from Renvyle, Connemara, Co Galway, pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving, causing the deaths of Mr Brian McGloin and Mr James Gavin at Tullymore, Renvyle, on May 25th last year.

Garda Brian Moran said Ruddy must have been going at a "ferociously excessive" speed when he hit a wall.
