A man has been jailed for five years imprisonment and banned from driving for 25 years after he was convicted of dangerous driving causing the deaths two Polish motorcylists in Co Kerry last year.
Thomas O'Regan (23) with an address at Garryduff, Newcastlewest, Co Limerick pleaded guilty to the charge of dangerous driving causing the deaths of Marek Olszowka, 32, and Kazimierz Kawa, 31 in a crash near Ballyduff on the on the N21 in Co Kerry at 6am on June 25 thlast year.
O'Regan also pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, and to having no insurance. He was found to have a reading of 120 mg of alcohol in his blood, well in excess of the 80 mg legal limit.
The Circuit Criminal Court in Tralee was told that emergency services had described the scene of the crash as one of the "most traumatic" they had dealt with.
The sentence O'Regan received was half the maximum penalty.
