A MAN whose father and another relative were also before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on separate matters yesterday was jailed for four years for handbag snatches from cars committed while he was on temporary release.

Patrick Brazil (19) is already serving more than four years' detention. He was given the temporary release while serving a 31/2 year sentence imposed in 1993. His length of detention was increased through further consecutive sentences for other offences committed while on release.

Judge Michael Moriarty was told the offences were also committed while Brazil was on temporary release. He directed that the new four year term date from December 1st last.

Brazil, of O'Devanny Gardens, Dublin, admitted unauthorised use of a car in November 1994 and to handbag snatches on dates in November and December 1994.

Judge Moriarty noted that Brazil's father and another relative were before him on two separate matters.

Mr Patrick Marrinan, defending, said his client generally only met his father in the prison or court environments. His father was currently in prison and his client had been institutionalised for much of his life since he was 10 years old.
