A man who raped a pregnant woman in a Dun Laoghaire sportsground has been jailed for 10 years by Mr Justice Barr at the Central Criminal Court.

Gerard Kelly was convicted on June 21st last, following a five-day trial, of raping the woman at the Pearse Rovers Football Club ground in Rochestown Avenue on November 2nd, 1997.

The court heard that Kelly (38), of the Halting Site, Sallynoggin, was jailed for eight years in England in 1987 for rape and aggravated burglary and that although he pleaded guilty to it he now denied it.
