A Man was being questioned by gardai in Dublin last night about a fatal stabbing. The victim, a 31-year-old man, was injured during a dispute in a house in the south inner city. A woman and her two week-old baby were also present.

Gardai said they would not be releasing the name of the victim until his relatives had been informed.

A man was arrested at the scene shortly after the incident, i at 8.15 p.m. It The stabbing took place at a house in Haroldville Avenue, close to the South Circular Road in Rialto.

Sources said last night that it appeared the victim was visiting the woman and her child. He became involved in an argument with another man, and was stabbed with a knife.

Gardai later recovered a knife, believed to have been the weapon used, at the house. The victim was taken by ambulance to St James's Hospital. He was formally pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Detectives based at Kilmainham station were last night conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area.
