A man was being treated for cuts and bruising last night after a so called punishment attack in Derry. The RUC said that "up to six" armed and masked men were involved in the attack, which happened in the Carnhill Estate.

The 27 year old victim was beaten with bats and iron bars and suffered injuries to his head, arms and upper body. A woman in the house was ordered to go upstairs and lie face down on the floor while the beating was carried out.
