Gardaí investigating the death of a publican in Co Offaly last week have arrested a second man.

Gardaí investigating the death of a publican in Co Offaly last week have arrested a second man.

Matt Farrell (64) died during a botched robbery at his pub in Daingean, Co Offaly, on April 1st.

The man, who is in his 20s, is being held at Tullamore Garda station under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.

A man arrested on Thursday, also in his 20s, has been released without charge.

Mr Farrell's body was discovered tied to a chair in the downstairs area of his pub by his son Matthew at about 7.30am on April 1st. A post mortem found he died as a result of head injuries.
