An investigation into the suspicious death of a man has been upgraded to a murder inquiry.
The 60-year-old victim discovered on Aghindarragh Road in Augher, Co Tyrone, on Friday last was named locally as Aloysius “Wishie” Hackett.
An 18-year-old man arrested yesterday over the killing remains in police custody.
Mr Hackett was an active member of Augher, St Macartan’s GAA club.
A former chairman, he remained as part of the senior management.
A spokesman for the club said: “Augher, St Macartan’s GFC respects the request made by the Hackett family for privacy at this time of mourning.”
Police are awaiting the outcome of a postmortem examination.
Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott said Mr Hackett’s death was a tragedy for his family and entire community.
“Augher is a close-knit rural community where an incident like this will have a bearing on the general population of the area,” he added. – (PA)
