Man for trial over rape of niece

A 38-year-old Galway city man has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court, charged with raping his niece.

A 38-year-old Galway city man has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court, charged with raping his niece.

The man, who may not be named in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim, faces seven sample counts of raping his niece on dates unknown between September 1st, 2004 and February 28th, 2005.

He is further charged with three counts of sexually assaulting the child during the same period.

Sgt Ailish Hynes gave evidence at Galway District Court yesterday of serving a book of evidence on the man.
