A 28-year-old man was today facing a weapons charge in Northern Ireland following a police operation against dissident republicans.

The man will appear before magistrates in Belfast tomorrow charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

The charges relate to eight searches which were conducted on Friday in west Belfast and Co Fermanangh by members of the PSN'sI serious crime department with the help of uniformed officers.

A man and woman who were also arrested were released without charge. The PSNI said charges would be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
