Man for court charged with assaulting partner

A 44-year-old Englishman will appear in court in Clonakilty today charged with assaulting his partner causing her harm.

A 44-year-old Englishman will appear in court in Clonakilty today charged with assaulting his partner causing her harm.

Mr Ian Bailey, with an address at the The Prairy, Lissacaha, Schull, Co Cork is charged with assaulting Ms Catherine Jules Thomas.

The alleged assault was said to have taken place on August 18th this year at Mr Bailey’s address. Yesterday at a special sitting of Listowel District Court, Judge Terence Finn remanded Mr Bailey in custody.

The court was told by Supt Frank O'Brien that Mr Bailey was charged with "a very serious offence".

The accused would not remain in the ecountry to stand trial if released on bail, Supt O'Brien told the court.

Mr Bailey had purchased a one-way ticket and was carrying two "substantial" suitcases when arrested at Cork Airport on Wednesday evening.
