A man died after getting into difficulties while swimming in Strangford Lough in Co Down, the PSNI said tonight.
The man was recovered from the water near Gibbs Island earlier today.
Despite efforts to resuscitate him by members of the public and the crew from the Portaferry lifeboat he died later in hospital.
A PSNI spokeswoman said officers were investigating the circumstances of the incident.
