A 45-year-old man appeared in court in Galway last night facing 42 charges of rape and sexual assault of his daughter. The offences are alleged to have been committed over the past six years. The girl is now 14. After Supt Mick Curley indicated that gardai would not oppose bail, Judge John Garavan set the terms of bail at an independent surety of £5,000 and, pending his securing of an acceptable bonds person, remanded the man in custody to appear before today's sitting of Galway District Court. Conditions of bail include a stipulation that the man not go near his home at any time, and not make contact of any kind, personally or through a third party, with any of his children.
