A 21-year-old Dublin man charged with membership of the IRA and unlawful possession of a firearm was freed on bail by the Special Criminal Court today.

Daryl Mulcahy of Matt Talbot Court, Dublin, was charged last week with unlawful possession of a 9mm Parabellum calibre Beretta Model 9000S semi-automatic pistol at Temple Street, Dublin, on December 4th.

He was also charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Óglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA, on the same date.

The court freed Mr Mulcahy on his own bond of €100 and an independent surety of  €20,000. He was ordered to sign on daily at Store Street Garda station, to surrender his passport and not to associate with anyone charged with or convicted of a scheduled offence.

Mr Mulcahy was remanded on bail until February 19th next year.
