A 36-year-old man was yesterday remanded into custody after he was charged in connection with the seizure of heroin thought to be worth up to €7 million.

Michael Byrne, with an address at Oldtower Crescent, Clondalkin, Dublin, was charged with possession of heroin and possession with intent to supply at Culmore Road in Palmerstown last Tuesday.

Judge Bryan Smyth remanded the accused into custody in Cloverhill Prison until Thursday.

A spokesman for the Garda press office said a female who was detained in relation to the same operation had been released without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
