Talks held at the LRC yesterday on payments to teachers for supervision and substitution work in schools are reported to have made a breakthrough.
A proposal is due to be issued today by the Labour Relations Commission which chaired discussions between teacher's organisations and the Government on the matter.
It is understood the proposal will provide teachers with three options - to accept a pensionable annual allowance of €1,400; to opt in or out on a year-to-year basis for the same payment which would not be pensionable, or to decide not to carry out the extra work at all.
It is thought the TUI will accept the proposal when it is put to their executive this Friday and the INTO are also expected to accept the proposal.
It is not clear how the ASTI will receive the proposal however, as the organisation did not attend the talks.
It is holding a special convention this weekend and reportedly may discuss the possibility of putting the proposal to its membership.
