Loyalists target business groups

Dissident loyalists have threatened leading business organisations in the North over their cross-Border links

Dissident loyalists have threatened leading business organisations in the North over their cross-Border links. These are understood to include the Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of British Industry, and the Institute of Directors. The threats arrived in yesterday's post from the Black Friday Brigade, which has never been heard of before. It demanded an end to business contacts with the Republic.

The RUC is investigating the threats. The letter demanded that the organisations end "all contact with the Republic of Ireland and any joint projects involving organisations from the Republic of Ireland". It added: "We cannot guarantee the safety of your staff, members and premises if your organisation fails to comply."
