The Minister for Justice has, ordered a review of security at the Loughan House open detention centre in Co Cavan. This follows requests from people living in nearby Blacklion who expressed concern that inmates were responsible for crimes committed in the area. Ms Owen has also arranged for officials from her Department to meet local people again on the matter.

Last year 528 detainees were "transferred to Loughan House. Of that number, 40 absconded and 17 were recaptured later.
