Liverpool have been linked with a move for Inter Milan's out-of-favour striker Hakan Sukur, according to the player's agent.

The Turkish star, currently out of the picture at Inter, could be set to move to Anfield as a short-term replacement for injured England striker Michael Owen.

Inter are keen for any move to be made permanent, something which could be a problem for the Anfield club.

Hakan Azman, one of the agents representing Sukur, told BBC Sport Online: "Inter want to release him and are open to offers, so a loan move remains a possibility.

"We have been in contact with Gerard Houllier and it is possible that we will meet again by the end of the week. "Much depends on the financial issues."

Liverpool confirmed that they had not ruled out a bid for the player, though any move is likely to depend on the length of Owen's injury absence.

Sukur's wage demands are almost certain to rule out Bolton, who had also been keen to sign him. -PA
