A 23 year old man has appeared in court in Limerick in connection with a crash last night in which a 21-year-old Limerick woman was critically injured.

Thomas Moran from O'Malley Park was charged with theft of a vehicle, driving without insurance and a licence. He was also accused of escaping from Garda custody at Rossborough Garda station overnight.

Mr Moran was rearrested this morning.

He was initially arrested shortly after the crash and was due to appear in court this morning in connection with the collision.

The 21-year-old woman is understood to have been travelling in a stolen car that crashed into a roundabout in the Dock Road area of the city yesterday morning.

A 16-year-old girl, who is understood was the second passenger, was also taken to hospital, where her condition is stable.
