The Austrian, who won the world championship three times as a driver, paid the price for another embarrassing season in which a design flaw on the new car saw the Jaguars trailing at the back of the grid early in the season.

Results did improve and Eddie Irvine finished third at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza but just eight points on the way to seventh place in the constructors' championship has prompted parent company Ford to ditch the 53-year-old.
